December 2004
I bought several of the parts for the robot for my Christmas Gift from my family. Motherboard, Hard drive, DVD Drive, Power supply (for now until I get the battery purchased, up and running), Base from Zargos Robotics (note: The project is based on the 12 inch base. When I contacted Zargos they offered to build me a 14 inch base. Assuming that bigger is almost always better, I went for the 14 inch model).
Here's a picture of the Motherboard, and hard drive mounted on the mid platform. I'm now using this to learn the Linux OS and get ready for the next pieces of this project.
Here's a picture of the motherboard sitting on a shelf next to the rest of the household network equipment. This has become "Marvin's" home for the time being. It also gives you some perspective of the size of the motherboard and hard drive as compared to the Linksys router.
In his (Marvin's) current state it's a great platform to learn Linux, and boy do I have a lot to learn.
